Meaning

Like navigating thorns among a rocky place, Thurisaz shows us it takes strength to wade through them, a little luck to not get ensnared, and the discernment to take a moment to assess the lay of the land before making any decisions. It represents pure action, raw power, potency, and strength on the physical plane; divine power on the physical plane is also a factor.
The result of all this raw power may be to metaphorically clear the thorns. However, by doing so one would also remove the benefit the bushes bring to the environment. Nature must be balanced, not obliterated. Thurisaz helps us to remember discernment in addressing problems in the here and now. 

Interpretation

Upright

Paxson:
  • Either good luck or assistance OR take stock and consolidate before moving further
  • Consider seeking professional advice before making decisions
  • Look to the other runes in your reading; could be a warning not to rush into things
  • Can indicate the presence or need for a condition of health and enthusiasm
  • If you have a practical question: conflicts and complexities with aggression, or psychic problems
  • Might relate to strength of will and conflict.
Thorsson:
  • Lucky rune
  • Signifies help and protection
  • Querent is being wrong-headed in some direction--be that business, emotions, or finance
  • Do nothing new or innovative, make no unnecessary changes.

Reversed

Paxson:
  • Time to shake things up
  • Recognize and deal with destructive tendencies.
Thorsson:
  • Querent is set on some particular course of action and is unwilling to listen to the advice of others
  • Consequences of following one's own path are likely to be disastrous
  • Querent is in an authoritative position and views development of an underling as a threat.

FAY-hu Meaning Historically, cattle were a pretty important part of Norse culture; as with many other societies of the time, having livestock indicated significant wealth cultivated over time.
