Uruz Meaning

 

OO-ruz

Meaning

Unlike the domesticated cattle of Fehu, Uruz stands for wild creation and strength from the now-extinct Aurochs, shown in Uruz as its horns pointed down into the earth. In some contexts, this is a rune of manifestation; physical resources becoming available, spiritual energy producing results, etc. Uruz also implies an active role in getting or protecting resources, including nutrition. If needed, take risks and be open to change. 

Interpretation

Upright

Paxson:
  • Primal creative power
  • Releasing spiritual energy into manifestation
  • Implications of courage, strength, endurance, and correct application of aggressive energy
  • Courage to make a change
  • Vitality, health, and fighting spirit: harnessing the energy of Fehu to one's advantage. 

Thorsson:

  • Any sudden or dramatic changes in one's circumstances
  • Natural change
  • Positive virtues
  • Energy, willpower, determination, true grit
  • Can represent male partner in love affair or marriage

Reversed

Paxson:
  • Difficulty making a change or a need to get rid of the past
  • Pay attention to the direction in which one is expanding energy

Thorsson:
  • An opportunity you should allow to pass you by
  • An unfortunate turn of events

Fehu Meaning

FAY-hu Meaning Historically, cattle were a pretty important part of Norse culture; as with many other societies of the time, having livestock indicated significant wealth cultivated over time. However, the iron-age Norse people were not a culture to cling to their wealth. According to Paxson, generosity was the #1 virtue in Viking-era Norse society; while wealth was a thing to be guarded, it was not to be hoarded.
